1 CUT out your fabric either to measurements or using pattern templates. Bag, Base and Loop strip. This pattern is made for standard yoga mat width 24″ engage for larger mats.
Measurements:
Bag 17 x 35cm Base Circle Diameter
1cm Seam allowances are included
2 (Optional) EDGE / OVERLOCK all pieces
3 LOOP – Sew loop strip right sides together long ways, turn through and press.
4 BAG – Sew longest edge right sides together leaving 2.5″ gap as indicated on pattern and press seams open
5 LOOP – Fold loop strip in half hiding seam. Pin to bag cylinder at base end, matching to side seam.
6 BASE – Insert the round base to the long bag cylinder at top end using notches to ease. Sewing a straight line to a circle is pretty hard so take it easy and go slow, constantly checking for accidental gathers.
7 CHANNEL – Fold top edge in approx. 1.5cm to the gap and press. Fold again matching the gap to create drawstring channel opening. Press and Sew 0.5cm seam allowance. Use a twin needle or sew another line parallel to make nice and secure.
8 DRAWSTRING – Thread your cord/rope through top channel using a safety pin. Draw cord through the base loop and tie a chunky knot.
And you are Finished!!!! Well done now grab your mat and see how happy it looks safe in its new bag.
Sample fabric is Studio G Dotty and the cord I used is 10mm thick.
This bag would be super simple to line so let me know in the comments if you’d like to see how.
