Here’s a sweet Spring craft project. I first made these with my Kids Craft Club gang back in 2020 and thought it would be a great one to share for Mothers' Day and Easter.
My sample is a daisy but change the petal colour and you have a gerbera or see my PDF templates for a sunflower.
Here’s what you’ll need to make them and how to do it:
KIT REQUIRED
- Craft felt
- Threads (Daisy yellow/green) (Sunflower Brown/green)
- Scissors
- Sewing needle
- Brooch pin (25mm)
- (optional) Card stock +envelope
- Templates
Pattern templates are available in my PATTERN SHOP
Here’s how to make the brooches:
1. CUT OUT 2 sets of petals and center circles in craft felt.

2. LAYER both petal pieces askew with a round center disc on top.

3. KNOT your thread (I like to use stranded embroidery thread with 6 strands).

4. Start SEWING the outer edge of the center circle through all three layers with a running row of French knots.
You don't have to make knots but it really does make a sweet pollen center for your flower (If you've never made a French knot before, google it, they are really fun!) But I do advise that you practice.
And just before you finish the circle of stitches check the next step!
5. STUFF a little toy stuffing or fluffed cotton wool up and under the circle to give the center a plump effect. And then finish stitching.

6. ATTACH a brooch pin to the remaining felt circle by sewing it on firmly.
7. SEW the back (with brooch) onto your flower with a running stitch around the outer edge of the circle. Be careful not to sew all the way through to the front visible side.

Once your flower is finished, you can decide what you would like to do with it. Will you wear it as a brooch?
Make multiple and string as a daisy chain garland?
I made the chain with a 3mm crochet hook and some 6 strands of embroidery thread.
Or add your flower to a greetings card? These flowers make lovely gifts or sell them at your local craft fair.
If you are using my templates you will also have a sunflower template.
To add the green stem to a card, use my templates and sew the stem to the card first before pinning the flower in position to the card.
The brooch looks great on a jacket or a hat see my Sun Hat project
So what are you going to do with your brooch? Let me know in the comments below.

Until next time, Happy Crafting
