Hoping Santa will stop at your house this Christmas? Here's a fun embroidery project to make a festive slogan banner flag.
A simple sew and a fun festive sewing project for you or even one to do with the kids during the holidays.
I recommend that you use craft felt as it holds up great and is super easy to sew.
Add your lettering, Santa face and finish with a Pompom, I mean who doesn't love a pom at Christmas!
If you are all in and want to make one of these slogan flags read on and gather your kit!
Kit List:
To get started you will need the following materials and tools:
- Felt / fabric
- 12" dowel rod
- Needle and threads
- Yarn for optional pompom
- String or twine to hang with
- Scissors
- Home printer for your templates
Download the flag and applique templates HERE to get started.
Firstly cut out all your felt/fabrics using these PDF templates. Craft felt is great for for projects like this because its no fray, holds its shape and easy to cut.
The flag comes across 2 sheets, just tape these together.
The lettering and Santa face are on separate sheets on the same download.
Now you have everything you need lets start making.
1> Firstly cut your flag. If you are hanging on a wall you will not see your stitching on the reverse but if you'd ever like to hang this in a window then maybe cut a second flag to back with.
2> CUT and build your slogan using the letter templates, try to keep lines straight to the top edge.
3> Sew your lettering down in any way you like with simple or fancy stitches.
I'm sure you can do a better job than me, although the great thing about using matching thread is you can't really see the detail.
4> If you'd like to add the cute bearded Santa face then cut all elements using your template sheet
And then start building up the face as follows:
Use beads or French knot for the beady eyes
Finally the tash!
5> Sew or stick your little Santa face to your flag
6> Time to make a channel for the dowel rod that will keep your flag straight at the top.
Fold the top edge over and sew a straight stitch along.
(This when you can trap the backing flag if you have used one)
Sew a long the folded edge line (and if you have 2 flags back to back you may wish to sew down the side edges too?)
7> The cherry on top is the pompom at the tip of the flag. Make a pom as big or as small as you like.

8> String your dowel rod with twine or string and hang your flag with pride!!!
