The cutest little festive wreaths you ever did make! This macrame project is quick and easy to make the perfect little tree decorations or gift toppers.
Pull your curtains down you need the rings! Otherwise you could buy some new curtain rings or find some at your local recyclerie/charity shop/thrift shop as I did.
For this project you will need the following kit:
- Curtain rings
- Thick yarn/wool, cord or string (33mm thick works really well)
- Embellishments: beads, ribbon, bells whatever takes your fancy.
TOOLS
- Scissors
- Optional needle and thread for embellishing
Are you ready? Gather all your gear and let's go...
STEP 1 - RINGS
Take 1 CURTAIN RING, if it has a metal hook on it twist this off you don't need it.STEP 2 - CORD
Take approx. 2.5m of CORD, yarn or string (if it is thicker you'll need a little less).STEP 3 - KNOT
To start make a SLIP KNOT onto your ring leaving a tail of approx. 20cm of cord at one end and a long working length at the other.STEP 4 - LOOP
Next make a LOOP behind the ring with your long working length of cord and PULL the cord up through the ring and your new loop. Pull tight and neaten. This creates another slip knot.STEP 5- REPEAT
REPEAT this last step all the way around until your ring is covered.STEP 6 - BUNCH
You should now have two tails of cord up against each other. BUNCH all your knots up and neaten, can you see the ring underneath? Can you fit another slip knot in or are you done?STEP 7 - TIE
Once the last knot meets the first you made, TIE these two ends tightly together against the ring and trim both ends to the same desired length.STEP 8 - EMBELLISH
Now for the fun part! EMBELLISHING this is where you can get creative. For a simple scandi finish, add an oversized wooden bead and be done, or throw everything you have at it and create a little work of art.
STEP 9 - HANGER
Once you are happy, tie a final knot at the top of your loose tails to create a HANGING LOOP for your lovely decoration.Et voila! Now you know how to do it you can whizz up lots of different designs for decorations, tree toppers, gifts or even sell them at your local craft market.
