Get to grips with ZIPS short online course
Would you like to know how to insert a zip to make cushions and bags like a pro?
In this 2 part short course I will show you how to insert a zipper into your projects and how to use a zipper foot on your machine to create a neat and professional finish.
This course is a good follow on from my Get to know your sewing machine course or for anyone who is familiar with their machine but has never been brave enough to tackle a zip fastening.
You'll need the following materials in advance or you can order the kit when booking (UK only)
- Plain woven cotton (fat quarters work well)
- Sewing thread
- Closed ended zips (no smaller than 9")
- Zipper foot (usually supplied with your machine)

Session 1 - Zipper foot - 80mins online
Preparation - Thread up and test your machine is ready for the lesson.
In this first session we'll start off by talking about the different types of zip available and how to use your zipper foot to get a close and neat finish when inserting a zip. To finish off we'll turn your sample into a useful little zipped bag.
Homework - Prepare for lesson by cutting out fabrics ready for the project.
Session 2 - Zipped Lined bag - 80mins online
In this lesson we'll use 2 fabrics to make a zip bag with a neat lining.
For this lesson you'll need:
- Plain cotton/woven fabric x 2
- Coloured thread
- 9" closed ended zip
- Zipper foot for your machine
Any supporting handouts for this course will be sent out to you via email upon booking.
To do this course you will require:
- A working sewing machine
- Sewing thread
- Good Wi-Fi connection
- Scissors
- Printer to print your course documents
