Spring flower brooches

Here’s a sweet Spring craft project. I first made these with my Kids Craft Club gang back in 2020 and thought it would be a great one to share for Mothersday and Easter.

My sample is a daisy but change the petal colour and you have a gerbera or see my PDF templates for a sunflower.

Here’s what you’ll need to make them and how to do it:

  1. Felt
  2. Threads (Daisy yellow/green) (Sunflower Brown/green)
  3. Scissors
  4. Sewing needle
  5. Brooch pin (25mm)
  6. (optional) Card stock +envelope
  7. Templates

Pattern templates are available for FREE on my Sewing Club members page (not a member join here) or in my Etsy shop

Here’s how to make the brooches:

For the Flower CUT OUT 2 petal pieces and 2 center circles

Layer both petal pieces with a round centre disc on either side and start sewing around the edge of the circle. Use a small running stitch or French knots.

Note before you sew all the way around leave a little gap for the next step.

STUFF – use a little bit if toy stuffing into the front circle to give the centre of your flower plump effect. Finish sewing to keep the studding in.

BROOCH? If attaching a brooch to your flower attach brooch back by sewing right through the flower/stuffing, catching the metal brooch pin to secure.

EMBELLISH – add more detail to the center of your flower with more stitches or even add some beads. I love the way the French knots look like pollen so I kept knotting for a really full effect!

If giving this brooch as a gift why not consider pinning it on to a card with a little green stem #happymothersday

STEM – Knot thread end and sew stem onto card hiding starting and ending knots under the felt if possible.

ATTACH FLOWER to the card using the brooch pin.

The brooch looks great on a jacket or summer hat
